What is a Hybrid Car ?


The concept of hybrids was introduced into the automotive industry to control environmental emissions. But vehicle users are not so sensitive to the idea of environmental protection. To market their products, manufacturers had to follow the needs of their customers. Accordingly, manufacturers combined hybrid concepts with petrol vehicles to reduce fuel consumption and reduce emissions.

A hybrid vehicle must have two power systems. These two power systems are different from each other. One is the fuel power system, and the other is the power system generated by an electric motor. As it contains two power systems, the production cost of the vehicle goes up. Manufacturers use a variety of methods to cover product prices.

When a hybrid battery is manufactured, the size of the battery increases as its capacity increases. Its weight is also increasing. It also has to be assembled in a specific frame. This battery needs more space. The motor has to be given more space. The voltage of the engine should also increase. But such an assembly would be impractical for all vehicles operating on the road for various purposes.

Automakers manufacture vehicles based on different social needs. All these vehicles cause pollution. All these vehicles must be hybridized to prevent pollution but this is not practical. Accordingly, manufacturers are motivated to produce various vehicles to minimize pollution and adapt to social needs. The hybrid vehicles thus produced are classified based on hybrid power. That classification can be compared to petrol vehicles based on engine capacity.

Accordingly, hybrid vehicles with maximum power hybrid batteries can be identified as Fully Hybrid vehicles. The battery and the motor of those vehicles are getting bigger. Battery power is between 1-2 kilowatts. Cars that do not have that much powerful battery power are called Semi Hybrid. The batteries used in these vehicles are not that big. Also, the battery does not have much power (about 0.7 – 0.8 kilowatts).

Hybrid cars with a small battery that only contributes to the activation of the vehicle and quickly loses power when applied are called Micro Hybrids. The batteries used in this type of car are between 125 – 130 watts per hour. There are also cars with much lower power batteries. If vehicles are classified according to hybrid power, the above method is also the most suitable. This is similar to the classification of cars according to their engine capacity.

A hybrid car is built on advanced electronic technology and will eventually have to be repaired at the high cost of spare parts. For example, for a defect in an expensive hybrid battery, the car may have been temporarily fixed using short-term remedies, but those faults could not be identified without the assistance of a technician. Ownership of the vehicle, previous service reports, etc., can be checked by the buyer of the car. The hybrid battery is one of the two major components of a hybrid vehicle system. At the end of battery life, the customer’s attention is focused on the high cost of new batteries. Hybrid vehicles primarily use NiMh and lithium-ion supercharged batteries generating in the high voltage range of DC 100v – 300v. Each manufacturer uses one of these major types of batteries based on the car’s space and the overall weight management requirements of the vehicle.

Since a hybrid battery is a chemical operating unit, the temperature control of its battery module must be properly maintained during charging and discharging operations, and the temperature must always be measured. Therefore, all of these modules must have the same electrical capacity during charging and discharging, otherwise some modules may overcharge or overheat, resulting in increased pressure and explosion hazard.

A very accurate computer control unit constantly measures each module’s current, voltage, and temperature changes, maintaining a battery charge value in the range of 40% – 80% and maintaining an overall charge limit of 60%. Therefore, any hybrid battery will have its temperature control design integrated with that battery. In the long run, any interruptions in the temperature control systems may cause the cooling not to work properly. The system must be specially serviced, taking into account the driving environment and driving distance. Hybrid car manufacturers have also introduced such services.

By performing such services on time, the battery life can be extended, and the vehicle’s overall fuel efficiency can be enhanced.
